INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED REPRODUCTIVE ENDOCRINOLOGIST INSTALLS Z.ONE ULTRASSOUND SYSTEM FROM ZONARE
Estimates Place Infertility Issues at Five Million Couples in the U.S. Annually; New Zone Sonography™ Technology to be Used in Diagnosis and Treatment
Chicago, Illinois – August 11, 2005 – In the United States, millions of couples remain involuntarily childless. According to the International Council on Infertility Information Dissemination (INCIID), it is estimated the number of U.S. couples that grapple with infertility issues conservatively reaches five million annually, yet only 20 percent of those couples will undergo some form of definitive treatment.
According to internationally renowned reproductive endocrinologist Carolyn Coulam, MD, Director of the Pregnancy Success Center of the Rinehart Center of Reproductive Medicine, many procedures supported by state-of-the-art technologies can help alleviate a wide variety of reproductive issues. “Science has come a long way in helping couples with infertility problems. We can now routinely use such advanced reproductive technologies as in vitro fertilization and monitor problematic pregnancies with high tech ultrasound systems.”
To this end, Dr. Coulam recently installed a new ultrasound technology, Zone Sonography, from ZONARE Medical Systems. Zone Sonography technology has allowed ZONARE Medical Systems to bring the first Convertible Ultrasound™ platform to the industry with premium compact image quality and unparalleled clinical versatility. Clinicians are able to convert the z.one platform from a full-featured cart-based system into a compact, portable system instantly with all the quality and performance of substantially larger and more expensive ultrasound units, yet, with significantly higher performance than conventional compact systems.
Combining a fundamentally new advance in ultrasound, Zone Sonography technology, coupled with the z.one platform’s radically new physical design, offers significant clinical and workflow solutions for a wide variety of customer needs. In addition, the platform’s unparalleled software architecture allows for fast convenient upgrades when new clinical and computer technology advances become available.
“The new z.one system is extremely helpful in our practice,” said Dr. Coulam. “The fact that it can quickly convert from a full-cart based system to a premium compact unit is invaluable in my work. I am especially impressed with the endovaginal transducer and its superb color Doppler and B-Mode. This is extremely important in diagnosing problems in the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries.”
Dr. Coulam has more than 30 years of medical experience in treating infertility problems. She has held the position of professor and chair of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology at the Mayo Clinic where she established that institution’s first in vitro fertilization program. She subsequently held similar positions at the University of Pittsburgh, the Center for Reproduction and Transplantation in Indianapolis and Genetics and IVF Institute in Fairfax, Virginia, the Center for Human Reproduction in Illinois and the Sher Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Chicago. Coulam is board certified in the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology and in the sub-specialty of reproductive endocrinology. With more than 200 publications in peer-reviewed publications, she has also edited a major reference textbook entitled Immunologic Obstetrics.
